There are over thirty bodies in Ontario with responsibility for regulating the activities of professionals including but not limited to doctors, nurses, veterinarians, engineers, dentists, teachers, architects, accountants, pharmacists, optometrists, chiropractors, dieticians and lawyers.
A key part of every regulatory body’s mandate is to protect the public. Accordingly, each regulatory body has mechanisms to receive complaints from the public, discipline professionals, restrict their practice where they pose a risk to the public, and suspend or remove their ability to practice in exceptional circumstances.
