This document is a copy of the slides that are used during the Duty of Fair Representation (DFR) Course that is currently being offered by Franklin Law. The DFR Course is a hands on, no frills introduction to Unions’ often cited but rarely understood duty to represent their members fairly.
Ideal for those who have attended the DFR Course in person and want an extra copy of the course materials. Also provides useful background information for those who have not attended the DFR Course but are interested in learning more about the duty of fair representation.
This document provides general legal information about the duty of fair representation, some of which may be historic and some of which may be current in nature. It is not legal advice and cannot be relied upon as such. In particular, this document does replace the situation-specific advice that Franklin Law and other lawyers provide through consultations. Before taking legal action, please consult with a lawyer.
